This is an exceptional Batak ritual container, traditionally used to hold pagar, magical materials, or medicinal mixtures prepared by a datu<\/em> (shaman). The piece consists of a carved buffalo horn vessel and a wooden stopper with a highly detailed sculptural finial, complete with its original internal mixing stick.<\/p>\n
