This traditional Dayak Iban quiver is a complete and well-preserved example of a blowpipe dart container used by Iban hunters of Sarawak, Borneo. The quiver consists of a cylindrical inner tube secured within a protective outer cradle, reinforced with original bindings and fitted with a conical lid. A side handle and cross-laced suspension system allowed the quiver to be comfortably carried over the shoulder during forest travel.
The exterior displays a deep, naturally developed patina with surface abrasions and age lines consistent with long-term traditional use. The form and construction reflect practical design developed for hunting efficiency and durability in tropical environments.
The quiver retains its original darts, each fitted with fiber cones and sharpened points, as well as its original dart shaping tool. These components formed part of the sumpit (blowpipe) hunting system, historically used for subsistence hunting of birds and small animals, and were also connected to ritual and status traditions within Iban culture.
