Borneo Three Legged Ironwood Serving Bowl With Rattan Rim made by Borneo Artisan.

Borneo is known for its rich rain forest and its timber. The ironwood or belian is one the most sort after material use in furnishing and construction. This bowl is made with a single piece of ironwood delicately finish with rattan rim which is the most difficult part of the process of make this spectacular bowl. In order to achieve this finish the carver would have to carefully hand drill each hole with precision and consistency to crate the holes for the rattan weaving, due to the hardness and the delicate structure of the wood  one single mistake would jeopardize the whole piece. Only skilled accomplish and skilled artisan would only dare to attempt such work to showcase there ability and skill. After successfully drilling the loops for the rattan artisan would have to carefully weave the rattan rim to finish the this piece. This bowl is collected the the 80s and probably made in the early 1900s.
