Dayak Modang Aso ceremonial Ironwood Serving Tray

This is a serving tray used during Dayak Modang ceremonies. Made of the root of the Belian tree delicately carved with a lively aso and a udo guardian in the bowl as if it was eating of  of the tray with the aso on the tip of the serving bowl as if it was drinking from it. This iconography is  symbolic to the Modang culture and are consider sacred in their society. This tray is collected in the 70s and is most probably much older.
