Dayak Modang Guardian Figure for Baby Carrier Ornament / Struts

This pair of figure are from the Modang tribes of Eastern Kalimatan Borneo. They were use as Baby Carrier struts intricately carved with ancient guardian figure with bird like faces with muscular body, arms and legs. Such ornament were place on baby carrier as talisman. Only important members in the modang community posses such ornament are very rare. The Modang tribes of Borneo are believed to be the most primitive yet sophisticated tribes in Borneo from studies of their artifacts and culture. This pair was acquired in the 80s from a private collection with label still attached.
