An exceptional,  Old Dayak Iban Kantu Healing Mask from Borneo, dating back to the 1970s (estimated age 50 years). Worn by tribal shamans and ritual dancers during traditional healing ceremonies (Belian) and spiritual events, this authentic piece serves as a powerful protective artifact designed to ward off malevolent spirits and cure community illnesses.
Hand-carved from a single block of light wood, the entire front facade of the mask is coated in a traditional white kaolin clay pigment finish. Over the decades, the mineral clay layer has developed a beautifully weathered, crackled, and naturally distressed patina that contrasts strikingly with the deep carving work.
