Primitive Orang Asli Sculpture Of Monkey Mah Meri Wood Carving.

The Mah Meri are one of 18 Orang Asli tribes living in Malaysia ( Orang Asli meaning the original people of Malaysia). Numbering around 1400, this tribe is concentrated around Kampung Sungei Bumbun on Carey Island. This carving was collected in the 80s and it represents primitive human monkey like figure which is a shaman holding or playing with an instrument sitting with a hat with 2 reptiles on top to its back. Reptiles are considered scared to the community and they symbolize  good fortune and wisdom.
