This rare ceremonial spoon or ritual ladder fragment from Timor is carved from a single piece of buffalo horn and displays finely executed openwork decoration on both the front and reverse surfaces. The elongated form is densely adorned with geometric and symbolic motifs, carefully pierced and engraved in a highly stylized manner characteristic of Timorese tribal artistry.
