A striking and deeply expressive Dayak Tunjung ritual mask, carved from wood and distinguished by its powerful frontal presence, exaggerated facial features, and richly aged dark surface. The mask presents a broad, monumental face with pronounced rounded eyes, a projecting nose, and a strongly modelled mouth, culminating in a sharply pointed chin.

Within the ritual traditions of the Dayak Tunjung of East Kalimantan, masks and anthropomorphic carvings could function within ceremonial and shamanic contexts, serving as embodiments or representations of supernatural forces, ancestral beings, or protective entities. Such imagery was concerned less with depicting an individual than with establishing a visual presence between the human and spirit realms.
