Iban Sintong Rattan Rice Basket

Elegantly shaped, this fine old basket ‘Sintong’ is from the Iban tribes in Borneo. It is an elegant square to round with nice deep base and  the rims are nicely made with strong band held on with braided wrapping. Obviously quite a bit of work went into this utilitarian object. This basket is not only beautiful but also highly functional that could be used in many ways. This is one exceptional example of an artistic and utilitarian tradition combined in an evolving, dynamic craft.
