Borneo Dayak Mask – Wooden Death Mask

This mask if from one of the land dayak tribes of west Borneo. Use as a death mask which means it is use to cover the dead when they bury or when they are on their death bed. This tradition is very unusual in dayak society but it is very familiar in some Indonesian and western culture which date back many century. Notice the side of the mask has no hole for wear but just to place onto the face.

In Indonesia or the western culture, death mask are normally made of bronze, brass or metal alloy but in Borneo they are made of wood.
