Dayak kayan-Keyah Baby Carrier With Tiger, Figure Bead Panel From Fine Glass Beads, Old Bells And Shells.

The kayan – kenyah is one of the main tribes in Borneo. Living in the up river and in the interior jungle of the island of Borneo. They are very skilled carver and especially bead work. Bead are one of their prize possession. This baby basket were probably use  by an important family in the community as you can see on the bead work they is 1 large figure in the center, 2 smaller figure accompanying the center figure, 2 tiger figurine and the tree of life adorn with aso, hornbill and the vine of life. The carrier is also adorn with antique bells, shells and some vintage and antique glass beads. The basket is made of rattan with a wooden seat. Such motifs are only reserved for the important community members among the Kayak – kenyah. This carrier is collected in the 80s and probably from the early 1900.
