Old Borneo Bidang Sungkit / Iban Ceremonial Skirt With yellow Borders

This textile is called a bidang sungkit which describe the technique use in creating this cloth. Sungkit means embroidery which the designs are embeded into the hand wovan cloth. This is a skirt and worn for important ceremonies like weddings and auspicious occasion. The colors are from plant base dye and are traditionally prepared by extracting colors from plans and roots. This piece have strong colors with minor staining probably due to rice wine or tuak during ceremonies.
