A rattan splitter use by dayaks for slipping rattan strips by placing 2 blades on top of the front block. This splitter is delicately carved with multiple image of scared design like the udo guardian in front, a sea dragon and a dragon behind, a sprit on the seat and an andromorphic figure at the end seat. The dayak carved such design for their spiritual belief as plaited art and rattan weaving are consider a sacred journey or ritual and all the tools and equipment has to be proper orated with their respective designs and motifs to make sure that their journey is smooth and fruitful. This piece is collected in the 80s and is estimated to be made in the late 19th century. item is pristine condition.
